Running every last Saturday and Sunday of the month from 11am-4pm this Farmers Market is exactly what Singapore needs and is what every Londoner has been craving since the heady days of Borough Market.
Being the first event there were always going to be a few teething problems such as the car parking, the limited number of farmers and stalls present and just how darn hot it was. Ok they can’t help that…but maybe a few umbrellas to shade the shoppers from the scorching sun would be a nice touch. Of the artisans who were present there were a few highlights for me…
Firstly the Straits Wine Company were there with some chilled thirst quenching juices and wine. Seeing as it was pre-midday we went for the juice option and I have to say they were delicious. These organic juices from Germany contained no added sugar but heaps of flavour, they weren’t cheap at $15 a bottle but nice as a treat.
The other highlight was the smoked salmon stall. The salmon flown in from Scotland is smoked in a handmade smoker over in Tanjong Pagar and it is the best smoked salmon I have had in Singapore. Forget the slimey tasteless stuff you find in the supermarket…this is the real deal. They don’t have a website just yet so keep an eye out for Hook, Line and Smoker coming soon!
There was also a gorgeous fresh flower stall from With Every Bloom selling beautiful pastel coloured blooms and stunning bouquets.
With the lounge area on the lawn bowls turf for the adults in between the wine and the smoked salmon and the huge sand pits for the kids, it is a great place to head to once a month to discover new food and artisans on the little red dot.
Did you go at the weekend? I would love to know what your favourite part was!
