This will be the last of my Lombok blog posts for now and I want to share about our visit to the stylish Boutique hotel, The Lombok Lodge.
I have to admit that I hadn’t heard about this hotel before I starting researching Lombok, however since then lots of friends have mentioned this modern hotel and the high reputation of its in-house restaurant.
Based on some fantastic reviews online of the food here and the added bonus of being neighbours (the Oberoi is next door) we decided to see what all the fuss was about and head for a romantic dinner for two.
It is important to know, which we didn’t, that this is a set menu ‘you get what you’re given’ type of place, meaning you will receive 5 courses chosen by the chef using only seasonal ingredients. The menu changes every night and encompasses different cuisines from western to asian.
The food was good, although we did have a slight mishap with the pumpkin soup which unbeknownst to us had goats cheese in (this wasn’t mentioned before) so we had this swiftly changed. The seared tuna steaks we had for our main course were absolutely delicious; juicy, zingy and extremely flavoursome. The dessert for me was a slight disappointment as I think they tried to be a little too avant garde and really desserts should be kept simple in my mind.
There are only 9 rooms in this hotel and all of them are suites so this is very much a couples retreat, however for me I felt the hotel lacked a little atmosphere and didn’t have the beautiful landscaped gardens like the Oberoi, which would have helped to soften the sharp edges of this modern boutique hotel.
I would definitely recommend heading here for dinner when you are on Lombok to soak up the romantic atmosphere of candlelit tables for two overlooking the swanky bar and listening to the traditional music and the sound of the ocean.
