Since becoming pregnant I have seen and heard pretty much everywhere mothers lamenting over who the hell decided to call this symptom of pregnancy “MORNING” sickness, as it rarely sticks to it’s pre lunchtime schedule.
I have also discovered that this daft named pregnancy symptom affects women in very different ways; some women never get it (lucky buggers), some women have it for a couple of weeks, some for a few months and some have it their entire pregnancy (to those women I salute you!)
Therefore, don’t feel that just because you are now pregnant that this will afflict you too, however if it does please know that whilst it will be rough for a while you will feel better again and there are some ways to help keep the sickness under control.
Here are some of my tried and tested methods*:
Ginger biscuits, ginger tea, ginger sweets – basically ginger EVERYTHING!
Lots of water in small amounts.
As alien as this may feel make sure you get lots of rest and don’t push yourself too hard. Work and morning sickness are definitely not BFFs.
Salty crisps or pretty much any food that you can keep down (I’ll freely admit that for me this was ham and cheese toasties and ready salted crisps…the diet of dreams!)
I found the Sickness bands that you can buy from the pharmacy really helped keep mine under control for a little while.
For those moments throughout the night where you inexplicably wake up starving AND feeling sick keep a stash of plain biscuits or crackers next to the bed. These always work a treat to have as soon as you wake up to help settle your tummy before the sickness takes hold.
Whilst these won’t completely eradicate the symptoms they will hopefully help make them a little easier to handle for you.
